Happy Tuesday

It's a lovely morning at Portage Cove, isn't it? And time to get organized following the Fair break, when we all abandoned everything to party and socialize and volunteer and eat and play and just have a nice social, community time for four days. There's another wedding this weekend, and we are in charge of peeling potatoes and hosting the groom's family at our cabin. So there's that. Also, it's time for a mid-summer clean up. Things are  a bit of a shambles inside and out, from windows to weeds, but the BB gun is working to keep the crows out of the cherries and the raspberries are filling in so Grandma Joanne is planning a jam session or three. (No, I don't actually kill, or even hit any crows, but the sound of the air rifle cocking the whizzing of the BB through the leaves is enough to make them scatter.)

There is also a little black bear bedding down in the evenings across the road in Alan's yard, but so far he has no taste for gardens or chickens and has left the neighborhood yards and sheds unmolested. In other news, the fishermen had a big  day Sunday/Monday, which is always nice for everyone this time of year, and Senator Lisa Murkowski will be in Haines and Klukwan Thursday. You can meet her at the Chilkat Center lobby between 11:30-1:00.

Thank Jessica, Eric and all the Fair staff and board for a great job when you see them. I think Pizza Joe may be onto something--  imagine if they ran the town?
