Anxiety, Challenges, Skills and FLOW

I wish I could draw here, but I can't, so picture this: a graph with "Challenges" up the right side and "Skills" along the bottom, and a line at an angle that begins in the  lower corner where Challenges and Skills intersect and runs up to what would be the far corner if it were a box, making a triangle above the line and one below. The line represents "Flow" or where you want to be emotionally. Above the line, is "Anxiety"-- as this is where your Challenges are greater than your Skills-- below the line is "Boredom"-- where your Skills are greater than your Challenges. Think about it, we all have things we do easily and well, and things not so well-- my friend Becky is  quilter. I can't sew an even hem. (That's her finishing a wedding gift for Eliza last night  while the family watched the Mariners' game. It was nice to have a stormy evening indoors- finally--). Anyway, back to the lesson-- Organizing a wedding is in my Anxiety triangle. The good news is I have friends and family for whom it isn't, and yesterday Grandma Joanne sat me down with a big yellow pad and we made lists and headings on four long sheets and then I went about completing the things on the list. Already there is progress! I have checked off a ton of things and am happy to report that I'm moving closer to the "Flow" zone. (I figured this little lesson may help you think about your own Challenges and Skills and how to avoid Anxiety or begin to increase Skills when you see Challenges ahead.)--Speaking of my Skills, a grandbaby has just arrived, and I am needed to play. Then it's onto the signs for the reception recycle bins and make sure we have the key to the kitchen area on the Parade Grounds. Tomorrow I weed whack the wedding site. (Totally within my Flow zone. I am a  terrific weed whacker-- as long as Chip keeps the line wound properly.)
