Happy Thursday

Of course it is. Even if the pool is closed and Marnie is out of town so there is no yoga or Morning Muscles, and it's raining and gray. So gray that yesterday planes didn't fly all day (in spite of nearly 10 hours of daylight), I know because I was hoping to be in Juneau today to hang out with Baby James and my daughters for a bit before flying up and over to Kodiak tomorrow where I'll do a reading and chat at the Kodiak College library at 7pm. There is a ferry around 10 pm, so I will get there one way or the other, and who knows, maybe I will fly later today so I can still have dinner with them? Did I hear a plane? I can't see it in the fog, which is not a good sign...

Still there is a ton of goods news at the KHNS radio site, including a big national honor for the library and a new school superintendent. An A+ to the school board who has been really working hard on this for months-- and this week almost every day and night -- they are really wonderful community volunteers.

And there's plenty to do if you can't fly out -- tonight at 7 are the Oscar nominated short films at the Chilkat Center, Lee Heinmiller talks about Tlingit regalia at the library at 7, too. Tomorrow Joe Ordonez is giving a talk about his new book, "Where Eagles Gather" in the Klukwan Library at 5pm, and at 7 (also on Friday) Lynn Canal Conservation shows a movie at the Chilkat Center on dwindling wild salmon stocks. There are home basketball games this weekend and a pancake feed 9-noon  Saturday at the school. Next weekend, is the Dick Hotch basketball tournament, and I hear 8 teams are coming, maybe even one from Fairbanks. The women may play a game as well. The Haines women are heading to Gold Medal  in Juneau looking very good after playing together all winter, thats March 21-26. (The men are sending several teams, too.)
