Sunday's Thought

“You can safely assume you've created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do.”
― Anne Lamott

I have been thinking seriously about getting a talking parrot, to remind me not to shout out loud what I am thinking when I'm alone in the house and listening to the news on the radio, or reading the paper. It may be quite shocking what that good bird would repeat for my grandchildren to hear, in my voice.

It would be like that other observation from Anne Lamott, the one about if Jesus knew what she was thinking, he'd drink gin out of the cat dish.

But that makes me laugh, and the more I think about it, in my life, that's where God resides.

“Can you imagine," Lamott writes (echoing exactly how I feel at least once a day), " The hopelessness of trying to live a spiritual life when you’re secretly looking up at the skies not for illumination or direction, but to gauge, miserably, the odds of rain? ”
