I live and write on Lingít Aaní, and gratefully acknowledge the past, present and future caretakers of this beautiful place, the Jilkaat Kwaan and Jilkoot Kwaan.

19 moose have been taken so far, and as Chip says, none of them are ours. But we are off to try again this weekend, which is why I will miss my friend Seth Kantner’s talk at the library at 3 on Saturday, but you should go, Seth will be reading from his new collection of essays. (The Ordinary Wolves author contributes to the Alaska Dispatch News and Orion among other journals.) I figure the guy who wrote Shopping for Porcupine will totally understand why I’m off at camp instead of at the library, and I bet he knows that it really doesn’t have that much to do with adding our moose to the total. ( Although that would ne nice.)
