I live and write on Lingít Aaní, and gratefully acknowledge the past, present and future caretakers of this beautiful place, the Jilkaat Kwaan and Jilkoot Kwaan.

It’s got to be more than flesh and bone, all that you love is all that you own. -Tom Waits from his song Take it With Me

9:35am, 33 degrees, low tide, north wind.

I love the idea of morning work that begins with the date, time and weather. I do that in my journal, and I figured it may help place the November photos for you. Also, I have had that Tom Waits tune rolling around in my head for three days. The first time I heard it this week it made me cry. He’s right though. All we do take with us when we go is the love, and that love gets repurposed in all that is beautiful and alive in this world. Like this place. I think it’s why I always feel better after a walk. Reassured, even. We talked about that today as we walked. My house is in the middle of the Chilkat River Beaches Recreation Area. One loop takes about 50 minutes.  We usually walk into the wind first. When there is a north wind like today, it means the sun is at our backs to start, but when we turn around by the creek, the long stretch is into the sunrise.

I was only going to post this picture, but the blue-gray light to the northwest was so beautiful on the mountains and in the sky I had to share it. Also, I figured a macro and micro photo are in order each day. Here is my walking partner doing what we do a lot, making sure we still have four dogs. The two elder dogs are dawdling and wandering a bit lately. A few times we have returned without one, which is really embarrassing.
