And here’s a few Haines happenings to note:
Tonight the Glacier Bears play the Wrangell Wolves, the JV game is at 5:30, Varsity at 7:00, same times tomorrow night. Tomorrow at 3:00 the library book club discusses “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks,” at 6:00 there’s a Peace Corps volunteer get together at the Chilkat Bakery, and at 7:00 the Arts Council presents the Oscar nominated short films at the Chilkat Center. Looking ahead, the Dick Hotch basketball tourney runs next Thursday-Sunday, the Metlakatla boys will also be in town to play the high school boys, and “Dancing at Lughnasa” will be performed Friday and Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 1pm in the Chilkat Center. (You can hear the KHNS story on the play here.) And the Haines Winter Olympic Games will be held at the Fairgrounds on Saturday. Opening ceremonies are at 10 am. (If this spring weather keeps up they promise fun alternatives to ice hockey and the bb gun and balloon ski biathlon and the I-Kid-A-Rod dog sled pull. There’s always the tea making and best chili contests.)
