I live and write on Lingít Aaní, and gratefully acknowledge the past, present and future caretakers of this beautiful place, the Jilkaat Kwaan and Jilkoot Kwaan.

I know I shouldn’t boast, but I live in great town. Honestly– watch this video of  Haines and my husband (and several other good people doing good things for us with the Chilkat Valley Community Foundation) and you will see I’m right. And while I’m at it, will you forgive me for showing you another picture of baby James?

I also have some highlights of the December community schedule for you:

Saturday at 5 there’s the Lighting of the Fort, with a nativity play, carols, bonfire, hot dogs, fireworks, and of course Christmas lights galore.

Weds. Dec 10 at 6:30 in the Chilkat Center it’s the K-5 school concert and Tues. Dec 16 is the 6-12 concert, also 6:30, also in Chilkat Center.

Saturday the 13 is the Community Ed Bazaar at the school, 10-2. That is also the big open house afternoon at the museum, pictures with Santa at the Visitors Center, and the parade with the Snow Dragon. Make a float or something and be in it too. There’s time.

Have you been to the library lately? It looks beautiful!

I know there’s more– the Uglys’ Gifts for Grub, The Follies– but I’m not sure of their time and place yet– For now, be sure to have these events on your calendar, especially the concerts. The high school Man Choir is not to be missed. (All the music really, but those boys are so much fun.) And be careful driving and walking. It is icy out there.
