Dana Stabenow

I am procrastinating on a column, (okay, actually I'm waiting until 9:00am to call Ann Marie Fossman and ask her about the game. I figure the assistant coach -and wife of head coach Steve Fossman and mother of star player Kyle Fossman-- will be my best source for the real scoop.) I also think everyone in Haines should make banners for the storefronts and have green streamers on our cars to welcome the team home tomorrow. Let's get on that folks. Chip says he doing something at Lutak Lumber. Do something at your place too. Something big.  Anyway, I have spent much of the waiting time reading Dana Stabenow's blog. The Alaskan mystery writer's site is a good  source for writers, for Alaskans, and especially readers. Her Monday book reviews are good, and may help you find a novel or two to read over spring break. I enjoy Dana's point of view so much, that I figured I'd add her site to my Alaskan Read links. She will be in Skagway in June as part of the Northwords Writers Symposium. The conference is being put on by the Skagway Convention and Visitors Bureau. (Wouldn't it be great if the Haines CVB promoted the arts like that? Haines own Dan Henry is even one of the organizers.) I wish I could go, but will be on the book tour for Take Good Care of the Garden and the Dogs from May 20- June 17. (And I get homesick in Juneau.) The book is released May 18, but that is Haines High graduation, so Algonquin has said it will be okay to let local folks see the book May 17th. The Babbling Book store and the Friends of the Haines Borough Library are planning an event. This is a little stressful for me, since I have never had an event in Haines. The only other book I wrote was published after I was hit by a truck. I was mailed the first copy of If You Lived Here in a Seattle nursing home. The good news is that Dana Stabenow has a new Kate Shugak novel out,  (and about twenty more where that came from) and as soon as I'm done with the Maltese Falcon I'm going to start it. I need to get lost in a book, and Dana's are perfect for that.
