It’s a wet start to a busy week in Haines. But April showers bring May flowers, and it’s supposed to clear up before the weekend.
The Chilkoot Indian Association has a transportation summit conference going on at the Sheldon Museum through Thursday.
Tonight at 6 pm in the Chilkat Center the Haines Economic Development Council (HEDC) present their baseline data draft report from Juneau’s McDowell Group.
Tomorrow there is a budget meeting at 5:30 and an assembly meeting at 6:30 in the chambers, and at 6 pm in the Chilkat Center, the Chilkoot Indian Association will host author Dan Henry’s talk titled, “Everything From Afar Drifts Ashore: The Northern Hub of Tlingit Country.” Dan recently published a terrific book on our local history, Across the Shaman’s River: John Muir, the Tlingit Stronghold, and the Opening of the North. There is a suggested 10- 15 dollar admission fee to be donated to the Chilkoot Culture Camp. Also Tuesday night from 6-8 the HEDC will present their data at the Mosquito Lake Community Center.
Wednesday is the K-4 Spring concert at 6:30 in the Chilkat Center, and at 7:00 there is an Alaska State Parks town hall meeting in assembly chambers.
Thursday at 5 the Upper Lynn Canal Fish and Game Advisory Board meets in assembly chambers, and at 6:30 in the Chilkat Center is the big presentation by the Alaska Department of Forestry and the University of Alaska along with other members of the Haines Timber Project Group, on their proposed 13,000 acre timber sale here.
Friday the Bald Eagle Preserve Advisory Council meets for the first time in a while at 10 am in assembly chambers, and the Fair hosts Spring Fling party beginning at 5:30 at the Harriett Hall.
