I live and write on Lingít Aaní, and gratefully acknowledge the past, present and future caretakers of this beautiful place, the Jilkaat Kwaan and Jilkoot Kwaan.

If you live in Haines then I am sure  you know ’em
It’s where Heather writes your obit and Christy writes your poem.- John Schnabel

John wrote this little ditty about my weird occupation- obituary writer– and Christy Fowler’s elegiac poems that she writes for many Haines’ end of life celebrations –as well as special events, birthdays and anniversaries–  Christy has already written several for John, including the one she says is the final,  a very long verse about John’s life and times which she composed for the birthday party before the last one this winter– it must have been his 93rd? It was at the American Legion. John has had no need of my services, and let’s hope it stays that way at least until his next birthday party.
