I live and write on Lingít Aaní, and gratefully acknowledge the past, present and future caretakers of this beautiful place, the Jilkaat Kwaan and Jilkoot Kwaan.

I remain with my nose to the laptop, frantically trying to complete my MFA in creative writing requirements by April 1. (The deadline was a big surprise, we thought we had until the end of May, or even July.) Next week I have other deadlines, so am hoping to get enough written and proof read this week to do the final cleaning up and sending off the week after next. More than you need to know, I’m sure. Still, it is good work and I’m lucky to be doing it. As my friend Nancy said at Morning Muscles this morning, not a lot of fiftyish woman have “finish thesis” on their to-do list today, but there you have it. Also, note that Roger Potter’s funeral is Saturday at 10:30 at the Port Chilkoot Bible Church. He was a gentle, sweet man. I wrote his obituary for the Chilkat Valley News this week, and will link it here when the paper is published, probably tomorrow. In the meantime, here’s another photo essay from my walk home from Morning Muscles today. (It’s cold and windy again.)

It’s kind of funny that the alley behind our lumberyard and in front of the Fireweed Restaurant is so quiet this time of year that Leo the Logger leaves the chains for his skidder  out like this and ready to roll on.
